Courses available:
Leadworking is an acquired skill, which can be developed through practice after the basic techniques of application and design have been learned. The malleability of leadsheet makes it possible, in the hands of a knowledgeable worker, for it to be (beaten) dressed into any shape without affecting its weather shielding performance as the most durable roofing material available.
Equally, it is essential that the leadworker takes into account the thermal movement that the lead will undergo after being fitted on site and that this is properly accommodated in the method of fixing.
Courses to introduce and develop leadworking skills are available through the Lead Sheet Association from their headquarters in Kent, England.
1 Basic Welding ^ BACK TO TOP ^
This will provide the skill required for trainees to develop confidence on welding lead sheet, and includes positional and non-positional welding techniques
2. Basic Bossing ^ BACK TO TOP ^
This introduction to bossing skills will help trainees to develop competence in bossing lead sheet details. This course together with the Basic Welding will cover health and safety aspects. (courses 1 and 2 can also be combined into one course)
3 City & Guilds 6055 Leadworkers Certificate ^ BACK TO TOP ^
The course is also broken down into four separate modules and will be mainly practical with related technology integrated with lectures covering design, repair, maintenance, fire prevention and ventilation details.
There are two routes available to gain this qualification:
• Route A Attendance at one of the LSA registered centres is best suited for those with little or no experience
• Route B Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) would be better suited for the experienced leadworker and is only via the LSA.
4. Lunchtime CPD Seminars ^ BACK TO TOP ^
The LSA offers a CPD service aimed at architectural and surveying practices and other professionals within the construction industry. The seminars will give a general overview on the use of rolled lead sheet and technical design details. If you require further information please register your interest.
